North Ellis County Outreach-- at 404 S. Hwy, 342, Red Oak,,offers a pantry, thrift shop, and financial assistance (housing, utilities, medical) to those desperately in need in our area.  Contact Barbara Johnson at 972-617-7261 

Angel Food Ministries-- locally partnered with God's Kingdom UMC.  Provides high-quality food at a low fixed cost. Contact Cora Jones: angelfood@gkumc.org

Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties-- makes a difference in the lives of many by helping to feed the hungry, breaking the isolation of a lonely day, assisting people to live independently and families to care for their loved ones, and helping to improve the overall quality of life.

Mission

Mission Insite is our conference demographics program provided free to you by CGD. Peter Wernett (one of the creators) is offering a free training opportunity. Identical sessions will be offered on September 10th at 9am-12 and 1pm-4pm at the North Texas Conference office Ministry Center. These sessions are designed to teach local church use of Mission Insite. If you are interested please contact Deniece@ntcumc.org for more info. This would be a great way to learn Mission Insite and be able to run reports to help you in your minis-tries.

What I Have Learned

Timothy Brown, writing in Perspectives, says: I remember a trip to the hospital just a few years ago. I was there to visit a beautiful young man from Spring Lake, Michigan, whose life was being robbed one blood cell at a  time by a vicious and unrelenting leukemia. Because he was so weakened, I knelt next to his bed to look at him eyeball to eyeball. I said quietly, “Hi, Tim,” and he responded faintly, “Hi Tim.” There followed an awkward pause because I didn’t exactly know what to say …..

Finally, the lad broke the deafening silence by saying gently, “I have learned something.”

Now I knew at least this much – you never trifle with the last words of a dying person, so I said, “Tell me, what have you learned?”

He said, again very faintly, “I have learned that life isn’t like a DVD.”

Perplexed, I said, “I don’t get it. What do you mean?”

He said, drawing his next breath in pain, “Life isn’t like a DVD --- you can’t fast-forward the bad parts.” As I knelt there, fighting back the tears and trying to take it all in, he interrupted my awkward silence again by asking, “You know what else I learned?”

I said, “No, I really don’t. Please tell me.”

“I have learned,” he whispered, “that Jesus Christ is in every frame, and right now it’s just enough.”

Pictures Anyone?

In trying to intentionally reorient the work of the Annual Conference to the local church  we want to be surrounded by examples of your ministry and of our churches at the Conference Office. So, I am looking for pictures of our churches and or district  in action. Mission trips, community work groups, CTCYM, Food Pantry, feeding the hungry, working in the community, etc.  In other words I am not looking for a shot of the building or people lined up but action shots. How are you at work in your community? Or the world? OFFERTORY PRAYER

O Lord, our Rock and Redeemer, the cost of discipleship seems just and reasonable as we bow our heads in prayer. Yet when we think about the economic pressures in our lives – the mortgage, car payments, school supplies, health care, college tuition, and credit card debt – giving money is a challenge. Strengthen the connection between your call to discipleship and our giving habits. We strive to grow in generosity so that our giving is a reflection of our desire to be in a covenant relationship with you. In your holy name, we pray. Amen.                                                 (Luke 14:25-33)

Chuck Colson writes:

When I was at Buckingham Palace last year, Prince Philip asked me, “What can we do about crime here in England?”

I replied, “Send more children to Sunday school.” He thought I was joking. But I pointed out a study by sociologist Christie Davies, which found that in the first half of the 1800s British society was marked by high levels of crime and violence which dropped dramatically in the late 1800s and early 1900s. What changed an entire nation’s national character? Throughout that period, attendance at Sunday schools rose steadily until, by 1888, a full 75 percent of children in England were enrolled. Since then, attendance has fallen off to one-third its peak level, with a corresponding increase in crime and disorder. Of we fill the Sunday schools, we can change hearts and restore society.                                                      Jubilee
